KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Illinois State men's tennis team completed its first tournament of the fall Sunday, Sept. 23 at the WMU- Vredevelt Invitational in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe and Cameron Petersen collected championship wins in flight F and flight H respectively.
"Very happy with the last day which happened to be the best. Jorge and Cameron won their respective flights and some other guys picked up their first wins of the season too," assistant coach Michal Kianicka said.
Bartra and Petersen took home three wins each in the tournament. Bartra overcame Detroit Mercy's Alvaro Lopez- Sanchez, 6-1, 6-2 in the championship round. Petersen earned a win over Notre Dame's Connor Somers, 6-1, 6-2.
Pol Botifoll Rius picked up his first singles season win over Butler's Adrian Mag, 6-2, 7-6 (4-0). Egehan Sertkaya overwhelmed Chicago's Charlie Pei in flight G, 7-6 (10-0), 6-4.
The Redbirds will return to the court next weekend to compete in the ITA All-American Championships, Saturday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Sept. 30 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
