NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds dominated singles play today against IUPUI and SIUE going 9-1. They also played a doubles match against Eastern Illinois, going 1-2.
The team swept IUPUI in their singles matches and beat SIUE 4-1 in the last set of the day.
"I'm very happy with the effort in singles," said Coach Maja Kovacek. "We didn't play our best, but we managed to find ways to win. Tomorrow I'm looking for us to come out with better energy and consistency in doubles."
Natalia Bravo and Tara Damnjanovic suited up for the first time as Redbirds. Damnjanovic went 2-0 in single play, while Bravo went 1-1. The duo played together in doubles, but fell to Eastern Illinois.
The Redbird Duals continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. The Redbirds will face Eastern in a singles match and both SIUE and IUPUI in a doubles match.
