NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds finished up Redbird Duals today going 2-3 in singles against EIU and 3-2 in doubles against SIUE and IUPUI. They finished the weekend going 11-4 in single play and going 4-4 in doubles play.
Jana Kustkova and Estelle Vanthier both went undefeated this weekend in singles play. Kustkova beat IUPUI's Gabrielle Ochalik 7-6(10) and 6-3, SIUE's Raillane Kamdem 6-1, and 6-3, and EIU's Claire Martin 7-6(5) and 6-4. Vanthier defeated EIU's Abby Carpenter 6-4 and 6-3, SIUE's Janvi Patel 4-6, 6-4, and 10-3, and IUPUI's Meghan Bernard 6-3 and 6-2. Newcomers Tara Damnjanovic and Natalia Bravo also picked up their first win as a team in doubles against SIUE's Alina Munteanu and Maria Thibault 6-1.
The Redbirds travel Springfield, Missouri next weekend to participate in the MVC Individual Championships. The tournament is set to begin on Friday, Oct. 5.
