NORMAL, Ill. – Women's Tennis plays its first match tomorrow, Sunday Jan. 20 against IUPUI. The season opener will take place at the Bloomington Tennis Center starting at 1 p.m.
The Redbirds were selected second in the MVC Coaches Preseason Poll, only behind Stony Brook. The squad looks to continue rolling from the MVC Individual Championships where Estelle Vanthier took first place in flight six and Tara Damnjanovic, Jana Kustkova, and Laura Fitzgerald all took home third place in their respective flights.
The Redbirds finished the tournament season going 23-30 in singles play and 13-11 in doubles play, ending their season with two doubles wins at the New Mexico Halloween Classic.
Player of the Year Veronika Golanova looks to end her senior season campaign on a high note. The First Team All-Conference player finished undefeated in the MVC last year and was a finalist in the No. 1 Singles flight last year as well.
"Our players are eager to get out there and complete," said Coach Maja Kovacek. "There's always a lot of excitement for a season opener, but also some nerves. We'll be looking to start with a lot of energy, playing high percentage tennis."
