NORMAL, Ill. – Women's tennis began its season off on a high note, defeating IUPUI 4-3. The squad went 3-3 in singles play and swept doubles play 3-0 to get the match sealing point.

"I thought the energy was really good in doubles today. Jana and Laura managed to assert themselves at the No. 2 spot very quickly and that helped the other two teams. I was really happy with Tara as well. She played in her first dual match as a freshman at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles and got two wins. Her opponent came out firing in singles, but she battled hard and found a way to win. Overall, it was a great match. A lot of credit to IUPUI, their players played solid from top to bottom and we really had to play some good tennis to win."

• This is the first match and the first win for the Redbirds this season.
