KETTERING, Ohio – With three golfers in the top-10 after the first day of the 2019 Dayton Women's Golf Fall Invitational, the Illinois State Redbirds find themselves one stroke out of first place after the first round, and just
18 holes to play in the tournament.
Senior Becca Black and freshman Ali Schrock are tied for third place individually, while senior Paige Seiser are is tied for eighth place.
"We did a great job of staying patient and putting ourselves in the right locations on the greens," said ISU head coach Breanne Hall. "The wind really picked up about mid-round which played a big factor in club selection. The greens were fast and hole locations were in tough spots. We are sitting in a good position with 18 holes to play."
The Redbirds' first-round 300 is the second-lowest score for the team this fall season, as they are tied with Butler for the top spot in the field. Cleveland State (305), Findlay (305), Youngstown State (308), Dayton (311), Northern Kentucky (315), Tennessee Tech (319), Valparaiso (320), and Detroit (321) round out the top 10 teams in the field.
Leading the way for ISU was Black, whose three-over 73 came from the strength of two birdies and 10 pars over the course of the 18 holes.
Schrock had two birdies in her three-over 73, as she also added 11 pars on her day. Seiser led the team with three birdies on the day, and with her eight pars she stands third on the team with a four-over 74.
Junior Tatum King was the final scoring golfer for the Red and White, as she had a birdie and a dozen pars, carding an 11-over 81 on the day. Freshman Emma Rouger was the final finisher for the ISU scoring five with an 85. Playing as an individual, senior Morgan Savage finished at 10 over par with a balanced effort that saw a dozen pars on her round.
The teams return to the NCR North Country Club for the final round of the tournament.
