EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Illinois State Women's tennis team completed the third day of the ITA Midwest Regional, with the squad going 1-0 in doubles play and 0-1 in singles play.
Sophomore Tara Damnjanovic and senior Jelena Vujicic took down Eastern Illinois Gauws/Steven 8-4 in a consolation doubles match.
"I am very happy to be back at regionals this year, especially since it's my last year," commented Vujicic after her match today. "Tara and I had a great performance in doubles. We had a chance to compete with some really good teams and we feel pumped for our home tournament next weekend."
Laura Fitzgerald fell in her main draws match to Ohio State's Danielle Wolf 6-1, 6-1.
"I think we had a really good showing and played some competitive tennis this weekend against some highly ranked teams," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said about the tournament. "Our players are really motivated to get back, get to work and get better, especially with our home event coming up this weekend."
The Redbirds will take their home court for the first time this season next weekend at the Redbird Duals, which will take place from Saturday, October 26 to Sunday, October 27.
