Women’s Tennis Comes Home for Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team will be traveling back to Normal to participate in their only home tournament of the fall season, the Redbird Invite. The matches will start on Saturday, October 26, and will conclude on Sunday, October 27.

The squad will face off in three separate singles brackets and a doubles bracket against players from IUPUI, Northern Illinois and Washington State University.

"I am very excited to play a tournament for the first time at home," senior Laura Arciniegas said. "We all have been practicing hard to get the best results possible. My goal is to win the singles draw. I have been getting better with each tournament and winning this one at home would be the perfect end for the fall."

The 'Birds are coming off of a strong showing at the ITA Midwest Regional, where every player that participated won a match. Junior Laura Fitzgerald made her way into the main draw tournament, after posting a 2-1 record during the qualifying rounds.

"We are coming off of a good performance at ITA Regionals and the atmosphere at practice this week has been great," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said. "Everyone is really excited to take home court and finish off the fall season on a good note."

The matches will begin at 9 a.m. at the Bloomington Tennis Center and admission to the matches is free.
