KAPOLEI, Hawai'i – Behind a strong second round from Becca Black in which she was a stroke under par, the Illinois State Redbirds improved their score by two strokes and their placement in the tournament by a spot heading into the third and final round of the tournament.
Cal Poly went 11 strokes under par on the day to push into the team lead with a two-round 575, as Sacramento State (578), Sam Houston State (579), BYU (585), and College of Charleston (586), round out the top five teams in the field. Directly ahead of the Redbirds' 610 include Hawai'i (597), Weber State (594), Grand Canyon (589), and UNI (587).
Black's one-under round put her at four strokes over par for the tournament and tied for 27th place overall. Black was two strokes over par through the first five holes and closed the final 12 holes at three strokes under par with four birdies and a bogey, as the senior went three under par over her final nine holes of the day.
Freshman Ali Schrock closed her round at three strokes over par including a pair of birdies over her first nine holes, and is three over for the tournament, which has tied her for 21st overall in the tournament.
Morgan Savage carded a birdie and 11 pars for a five-over 77, and is tied for 54th, as Tatum King rounded out the scoring four for the Redbirds with a nine-over 81 and is tied for 65th in the field. Paige Seiser went 10 over for the round and is tied for 71st among the golfers in the tournament.
Playing as individuals, Emma Rouger carded a three-over 75 and Emma Sutton a six-over 76, as both are 10 over for the two rounds and tied for 49th place individually.
The Redbirds close out play at the tournament on Wednesday morning starting at 12:30 p.m. CT.
