NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds continue their first set of road matches, stopping at Lipscomb University on Saturday, Feb. 16, and then finishing at Murray State on Sunday, Feb. 17.
The Redbirds are currently 5-2 this season, starting the spring slate off on a five-game win streak at home. Key players to watch for the 'Birds are Freshman Tara Damnjanovic, who has a record of 4-1 playing primarily the No. 1 and 2 spots, and Senior Jana Kustkova, who has a record of 5-1 playing primarily the No. 3 spot.
Lipscomb University is 4-2 in their season, coming off a win to Murray State and a loss to Alabama this past weekend. The Lady Bison's are led by redshirt junior Kateryna Popova, who was unanimously voted both the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Senior Viktoriya Dzyuba was also named First Team All-Conference, and Senior Madeleine Brooks earned Second Team All-Conference.
Murray State is currently 2-2 on the year, after falling to both Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee this past weekend. The Lady Racers finished second last season in the Ohio Valley Conference with a record of 14-7. Sophomores, Aarja Chakraborty and Stasya Sharapova, and Junior Claire Chang earned All-Conference honors for the Lady Racers as well last season.
The first match will take place at the Whitworth Racquet Club in Nashville, Tenn. with the first serve set to begin at 7 p.m. The 'Birds wrap up the weekend at Kenlake Tennis Center in Aurora, Kentucky, with the doubles matches beginning at 1 p.m.
