LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLA. – The women's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Mid-American Match Play Challenge by winning the first (5-0-0) and losing the second (3-2-0). The tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,068 yard Royal Lakes course at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club.
In the first round the Redbirds went head-to-head against Western Illinois, claiming each their five points before the 18th hole.
Senior Caitlin Sims played competitively in the first round by getting an early lead against her opponent and finished 7 up & 6 to go. Sophomore Emma Sutton went 5 up & 4 to go to end her round on the 14th hole. Juniors Paige Seiser and Becca Black both finished round one 3 up & 2 to go. Morgan Savage ended the round on hole 15 after playing 4 & 3 against her opponent.
The Redbirds fell to Akron in the second round of the Challenge 3-2-0. Juniors Morgan Savage and Becca Black claimed the two team points this round by going 4 & 3 and 5 & 3 respectively. Sims' front nine was almost all square but ended on hole 16 after getting four strokes behind on the back nine.
Junior Paige Seiser played the second round one up or all square, until falling 3 & 2 over the back nine. Sophomore Emma Sutton played until the 16th hole where she fell 3 & 4.
The Redbirds return to action tomorrow morning as the team competes against Eastern Michigan in the third round of the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
