Illinois State finishes 2-1-1 at MId-American Match Play Challenge

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLA. – Illinois State placed seventh, going 2-1-1 at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

After a back-and-forth round to open Tuesday's day, Illinois State and Eastern Michigan ended all-square in round three. Starting on the back nine, Morgan Savage rallied to come back and end her individual match all-square. Junior Becca Black and senior Caitlin Sims ended 2 up on each of their opponents from Central Michigan to gain the team's two points for the round.

Junior Paige Seiser and sophomore Emma Sutton both fell to their Eagle foes.

In the final round of the Challenge the Redbirds won against Central Michigan 4-0-1. Morgan Savage won her individual match 5&4, while. Caitlin Sims played all square over the 18 holes.

Sophomore Emma Sutton played competitively this round, gaining a seven-point lead before ending the round 4 & 3. Juniors Becca Black and Paige Seiser each gained a point for the team by winning 2 & 1.

The Redbirds are competing in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Arizona February 22-24. The tournament is hosted by Western Michigan University at the Rio Verde Country Club.
