NORMAL, Ill. - The men's tennis team will face Summit League competitor, University of North Dakota, Saturday, March 23 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Match play is set to begin at 5 p.m. CT starting with doubles.
Last week, the Redbirds traveled west for spring breaking, going 1-3. The 'Birds extended their win streak to six-straight with their win over Southern Utah, 5-2, in the first match of the week. The team fell to a 1-0 deficit, after Southern Utah captured the doubles point. Illinois State only fell in the No. 2 spot of singles, collecting wins in all other flights.
The Redbirds continued their spring break trip with matches against UNLV and UCR, where they came up short in both contests. Senior Igor Kolaric earned a big win against UNLV in the No. 1 spot. He defeated Richard Solberg in a three-setter, 6-0, 5-7, 1-0. Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe took home the Redbirds final win in flight four of singles over Milos Dabic.
The Redbirds finished out the week with a match against University of California-Riverside, where they fell, 6-1. The Redbird point came fromEgehan Sertkaya in flight six of singes, after he overcame Anderson Ju.
Illinois State will head into the match with North Dakota with a record of 11-5. The Fighting Hawks are 7-7 going into the league competition with the Redbirds. North Dakota has won two-straight matches, defeating South Carolina Upstate and Bethune-Cookman.
The Redbirds will travel back home March 30 for a double-header with Prairie State and Valparaiso at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
