Redbirds Women's Golf Takes on Red Rocks Invitational in Sunny Sedona

NORMAL, Ill. – This weekend the Redbirds travel to Northern Arizona to compete in the two-day, 54-hole Red Rocks Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,210 yard Oak Creek Country Club.

This is the Redbirds first appearance at the Invitational, where they will face a new mix of teams, a large amount from west of the Mississippi River. Drake is the only other Missouri Valley Conference competitor in the field, with the tournament being just three weeks until the MVC Championship.

Representing the Redbirds in action this week is Caitlin Sims, Becca Black, Morgan Savage, Tatum King, Paige Seiser, and Emma Sutton as an individual.

Format: Two rounds will be played on Saturday with continuous play, and a final round on Sunday to conclude the 54-holes.

Competing Teams:  New Mexico State, Idaho State, Seattle, Gonzaga, Drake, SFA, Creighton, Wyoming, ND State, Montana, Weber State, California Baptist, Montana State, Northern Arizona University, Wichita State, Southern Utah University, and California State

About the Course:  The par-72 course at Oak Creek Country Club boasts stunning views of the red, rocky landscape surrounding the course. The grounds crews have been working to dry up the course from the rare snow Arizona experienced in late February.

Last Time Out: Previously, the women's golf team placed 14th at the Spring Break Shootout as the five-member squad carded a three-round score of 914 (304-302-308). The par-71 tournament took place at the Lake Jovita Country Club in Lake Jovita, Florida, hosted by Florida Glub Coast University.

Caitlin Sims (72-74-78) and Becca Black (73-75-78) went on to share a three-way tie for 45th place, with a final score of 226. Junior Paige Seiser (80-79-74) played three-over-par on day two, improving to earn a tie for 60th place alongside individual player Emma Sutton (75-79-79).

Junior Morgan Savage ended the tournament with a score of 232 (79-75-78) and a 59th place finish. Tatum King caught six birdies over three rounds to end in a tie for 72nd place, as the sophomore played a 238 (80-78-78).
