GRAND FORKS, N.D – The Illinois State men's tennis team fell short to North Dakota, 5-2, Saturday, March 23 at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The match brought the Redbirds to 11-6 overall in the dual season.
The Fighting Hawks topped the Redbirds in all three doubles matches. Charmichael-Plester and Callegari collected the doubles point over Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe and Pol Botifoll Rius.
In singles, the Redbirds evened the score at 1-1 with Cameron Petersen defeating Alex Reinke in the No. 6 spot. The win brought Petersen to 11-5 in singles this season. North Dakota responded with a pair of wins in flights one and two. The 'Birds battled back with a win behind Diego Emilio Moura Herrera in a three-setter to bring the score to 3-2.
Johnnie Carmichael-Plester clinched the match for the Fighting Hawks with a three-set victory over Aleksa Lazarevic. Jake Kuhlman overcame Quispe in the No. 4 spot for the 5-2 finish.
The Redbirds will head back home to host a double-header, Saturday, March 30 against Prairie State and Valparaiso at the Bloomington Tennis Center. The matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
