SEDONA, Ariz. – A two-round score that hasn't been reached since last season has paced the Illinois State Redbirds at the par-71 Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona. The score, after 36 holes, is 606 (305-300).
The team sits in a 14th place tie after recording a season-low single-round team score of 300 in the second round of the day, topping the previous season-low of 301. Gonzaga currently leads the 18-team field and is one stroke over par after two rounds.
Morgan Savage played a career-best round by staying on par in the first round. The junior went on to play 8-over-par in round two. Savage's two-round score is 159 (71-79). Caitlin Sims played strong in the second round, only giving up one stroke. This put the senior in a tie 45th place tie with her two-round score of 148 (76-72).
Becca Black carded a 5-over-par score in the first round and 6-over-par in the second to round out her day at 153 (76-77). The junior carried four birdies over day one. Sophomore Tatum King played 4-over-par in the second round to bring her score to 157 (82-75). King claimed five birdies over two rounds.
Junior Paige Seiser and sophomore Emma Sutton came back after a tough first round to play 5-over-par and 6-over-par respectively. Seiser used her three birdies to achieve a score of 159 (83-76). Going into the third round, Sutton waits at 160 (83-77).
The Redbirds tee off for round three of the Red Rocks Invitational Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. (MST).
