LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Illinois State men's tennis team was defeated by Louisville, 5-1, in the Sunday night match on March 31 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The match brings the Redbirds to 12-8 overall this season.
Louisville downed Illinois State in flight two of doubles to begin match play. The Cardinals collected the doubles point in the No. 1 spot with C. Morin-Kougoucheff and Fabien Salle overcoming Egehan Sertkaya and Aleksa Lazarevic, 7-5.
Louisville quickly jumped to a 3-0 lead, after earning wins behind Alex Wesbrooks and Brandon Lancaster in the No. 6 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Federico Gomez locked in the win for the Cardinals with a, 6-4, 6-4, victory against Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe. After Louisville picked up a win in third singles, Diego Emilio Moura Herrera put the 'Birds on the board by defeating David Mizrahi, 7-5, 6-0, for the 5-1 final.
Illinois State will continue its road trip Saturday, April 6 against Omaha at noon in Omaha, Nebraska. Followed by a match with Creighton on Sunday, April 7 at noon in Omaha, Nebraska.
