BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team came up short, 6-1, against Summit League-opponent Denver at the Bloomington Tennis Center on Friday.
Denver quickly picked up a 1-0 lead, after capturing wins in the No.1 and No. 2 spots of doubles.
The Pioneers earned four-straight victories with Matt Summers defeating Pol Botifoll Rius in second singles to secure the win. Aleksa Lazarevic overcame Daniel Krulig in flight five for the sole Redbird point of the match. The victory brought Lazarevic to 14-8 in his first season with the 'Birds. Igor Kolaric dropped a three-set battle to Mattia Ros in first singles for the 6-1 final.
The loss brought Illinois State to 12-11 heading into their last two matches of the season. Denver remains a perfect 4-0 in league-play and improved to 9-8 overall.
The Redbirds will host Oral Roberts for their last home match on Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
