NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 conference win over Oral Roberts Saturday, April 20 at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
"I couldn't be happier for our seniors today. It was a great team effort in getting the win on such a special day for Igor and Ege," head coach Mark Klysner said. "We played some of better doubles today, which I really felt carried some momentum into the singles matches. Credit goes to our guys who stepped up and closed out our final home match of the year."
Oral Roberts picked up the first doubles win of the match in the No. 2 spot. Partners Egehan Sertkaya and Aleksa Lazarevic responded with a victory in first doubles. Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe and Pol Botifoll Rius clinched the doubles point, defeating Kenneth Boykin and Eddy Leardini, 7-6.
The Golden Eagles evened the score at 1-1 behind Marcello Moreira in the No. 4 spot. Oral Roberts took the lead, after Barnabas Koncz topped Rius. Igor Kolaric brought his record to 12-5 in first singles with a win against Boykin. Bartra bested Andre Russo to regain the lead for the 'Birds. With the 3-2 lead, Lazarevic secured the match, overcoming Nikola Boshou in flight five. Leardini defeated Sertkaya for the 4-3 finish.
The Redbirds will close their season Sunday, April 21 against Iowa at 5 p.m. in Iowa City, Iowa.
