OMAHA, Neb. – The Illinois State men's tennis team was narrowly defeated 4-3 by Omaha, Saturday, April 6 in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Redbirds fell to a 1-0 deficit after Omaha collected the doubles point behind the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Hugo Piles Ballester and Ethan Henry earned a win over Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe and Cameron Petersen in third doubles. Abdoul Ouattara and Matt Dunn overcame Igor Kolaric and Zacharias Rankloo Rasmusson to secure the point.
After dropping matches in flights three and fives of singles, Aleksa Lazarevic picked up a win for the 'Birds against Davis Lawley. Alex Woodward decided the match with a victory over Petersen in sixth singles. Kolaric showed up for the Redbirds, pulling out a three-set win against Abdoul Ouattara in the No. 1 spot. Pol Botifoll Rius finished out the match on a high-note by overcoming Nathan Reekie for the 4-3 finish.
The loss brings the Redbirds to 12-9 overall as they prepare to face Creighton, Sunday, April 7 at noon in Omaha, Nebraska.
