Redbirds Advance In Singles Brackets On Day 2 Of River Forest Invitational

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Day two of the River Forest Collegiate Tennis Invitational was a successful one for the Illinois State men's tennis team, as four singles players advanced with wins on the day and will play Sunday looking to wrap up a strong weekend.

In Flight 1 singles action, Diego Le Gal Perez was defeated by Vasilis Vardakis of Youngstown State 6-0, 6-3, but he will have a chance to come away with some hardware as he plays for third place tomorrow. Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe will play for the Flight 2 singles title tomorrow, after he defeated Kasper Parlklo of UIC by a final of 7-6 (8), 7-5 to advance to the winner's bracket final. 

Diego Emilio Moura Herrera also picked up a win in the consolation bracket with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of JP McKenzie of Saint Louis to advance to the Flight 3 fifth-place match on Sunday. Brandon Lew will also play in the fifth-place match Sunday, as he advanced in the Flight 6 consolation bracket with a defeat of Felipe Cruz of Saint Louis to round out a strong day of singles play on the clay for the Redbirds.

In doubles action, the team of Bartra Quispe/Lew picked up a win in their first match of the day over the team from NIU, but were then defeated in the Flight 1 fifth-place match by the team of Garreto/Vardakis from Youngstown State by a score of 8-7.  The other two doubles teams also suffered losses on Saturday, as their tournament came to an end.
