Men’s Tennis to Host Four Weekend Matches

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's tennis will be hosting doubleheaders on Friday, Jan. 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Illinois.

The Redbirds will take on UIS Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Eastern Illinois beginning at 6 p.m. On Saturday, play will continue with a match against Western Michigan at 11 a.m., followed by a 4 p.m. contest against Prairie State.

About the Redbirds:

The Redbirds opened the spring season against a pair of Big Ten Conference foes in Northwestern and Wisconsin, falling to both by scores of 6-1. Melker Isaksson battled hard and defeated Scott Sculley of Wisconsin in singles action (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11) and earned the Redbirds their lone point. The Redbirds later played Chicago State in their second match last Saturday swept the Cougars in both singles and doubles action with a 7-0 win.

About the Prairie Stars:

The Prairie Stars will open their 2019-2020 Spring season this weekend at Illinois State. UIS ended their Fall season with a pair of wins over Olivet Nazarene and Lindenwood-Belleville. 

About the Panthers:

EIU opened their Spring season with a 6-1 win against Olivet Nazarene. The Panthers also added two more wins last weekend against Mississippi Valley State and Saint Louis, moving EIU to 5-0 this season.

About Western Michigan:

The Broncos began a strong apring season with two wins against Butler (5-2) and UIC (6-1). Last weekend, the Broncos defeated Gonzaga improving them to 3-2 overall to start their non-conference slate in 2020.

About the Pioneers:

The Pioneers opened their Spring season against Olivet Nazarene last weekend with a tough loss. The Pioneers fell 4-3 to the Tigers, losing a tiebreak in the final match.
