NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team will travel to Chicago to take on Chicago State on Friday, January 31 at 1 p.m., and will then drive back to the Bloomington Tennis Center to take on the UIC on Sunday, February 2, at 10 a.m.
There was a match scheduled with UIS for later Sunday afternoon as well, but due to unforeseen circumstances that match has been cancelled.
The Redbirds are coming off their opening weekend in which they went 1-1, taking down Eastern Illinois last Friday, before falling to DePaul on Sunday. Juniors Laura Fitzgerald and Ivon Mihaleva hung on to finish the match against EIU, taking each of their opponents to 3 sets to secure the win.
About Chicago State:
The Cougars are currently 0-2 on the season, falling in matches last weekend to Saint Louis and SIUE. Illinois State took down Chicago State last season 6-1. Chicago State is coached by Jack Barton, who is in his 12th season with the team.
About UIC:
The Flames are 0-1 this season, dropping their match to Marquette last weekend. UIC is the reigning Horizon League Champion, after defeating Cleveland State in the tournament championship last season. On their way to taking the title, the Flames came out on top over the Redbirds last season, winning the match 4-3.

"We're looking forward to couple of competitive matches this weekend. It's still early in the season and we're looking to perform better each week. We will need to be really sharp in doubles to give ourselves the best chance to win."
