NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore Diego Le Gal Perez was named the Summit League's Athlete of the Week after his stellar performances in a pair of victories for the Redbirds last week. This is the first Summit League weekly honor for Le Gal Perez in his career.
Le Gal Perez guided the Redbirds to victories against Chicago State and Green Bay last weekend. Against the Cougars, Le Gal Perez teamed with Brandon Lew at the third doubles position, posting a 6-4 victory. In singles action, the Madrid, Spain native recorded a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win at the No. 3 spot. Against the Phoenix, Le Gal Perez and Lew got the Redbirds off to a good start with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. In singles action, Le Gal Perez recorded another come-from-behind win at the No. 3 spot, posting a 0-6, 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
The Redbirds begin conference play on Thursday, Feb. 27, when they host Drake for a noon match at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
