Men’s Tennis Travels to Indiana for Weekend Matches

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team heads to Indiana to compete in a pair of matches this weekend. On Saturday, the Redbirds will compete against Butler in Indianapolis, Indiana (1 p.m.), before heading to Muncie, Indiana, on Sunday for a match against Ball State (1 p.m.).

Thoughts from Coach Klysner:
"This is going to be a tough test against both Butler and Ball State. Both teams are off to good starts, as are we, and I anticipate a lot of close matches. If we can take control by winning the doubles points, then I like our chances moving forward."

Redbird Notes:
The Redbirds went 2-1 last weekend to bring them to 6-4 overall in the spring season. ISU traveled to Tennessee, where they defeated Austin Peay (6-1) and Tennessee State (7-0) but dropped a tough one to Belmont. Overall, the team has won six of its last eight matches as the non-conference schedule winds down before Summit League play starts at the end of the month.

About the Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs traveled to Youngstown, Ohio, last weekend where they defeated Youngstown State in a 4-3 win. Butler moved to 6-2 this spring and handed YSU its first loss of the season. YSU came out strong, taking the first point of the match, and followed that performance with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but Butler went on to win the last four individual match-ups to take the match.

About the Cardinals:
The Cardinals have had a strong start to their spring season with an extended winning streak bringing them to 4-2 overall. Last weekend, the Cardinals earned a 6-1 victory against Eastern Illinois. For the fifth-straight match, the Cardinals took the doubles point from their opponent. The top court duo of Chris Adams and Vince Orlando started things off by breezing past the Panthers twosome of Freddie O'Brien and Mike Jansen, 6-2, and they never looked back.
