YPSILANTI, Mich. – Action concluded Saturday at the Eagle Invitational for the Illinois State women's tennis team, and transfer Maria Potsi finished a strong tournament by going undefeated on way to a Flight 3 championship.
"There are many great takeaways from this tournament," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said." We competed hard for two days and are ready to prepare at the upcoming MVC Individual Championship next week at Valparaiso. Really proud of Maria Potsi for fighting through some tough competition and going undefeated at this tournament."
After two wins yesterday, Potsi advanced to the Flight No. 3 final and picked up a 7-5, 6-3 victory to win the championship. Bouncing back from defeats yesterday, Tijana Zlatanovic and Penelope Abreu also picked up wins on the final day of competition in Flights No. 1 and No. 6, respectively. Elena Jankulovska, Tara Damnjanovic and Alexandra Abyasova each advanced to the finals of their respective flights, but fell in their bids to win championships Saturday.
After a win yesterday and a loss in their first doubles match of the day, Abyasova and Abreu picked up a 6-1 win in their third and final match of the weekend.
Illinois State next heads to Indiana next weekend to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships hosted by Valpo.
