First Day Of Action At Bearkat Invitational Wraps Up

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Three Redbirds swept their singles matches and ISU won a pair of doubles matches Saturday on the first day of action at the Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston State.

In singles action Maria Potsi picked up a pair of wins in Flight No. 2 with a three-set win over Lusine Chobanyan (SHSU) in the first round and a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alexandra Weir (UTSA) in round two. Elena Jankulovska also picked up a pair of wins in Flight No. 5, defeating Sunskrithi Damera (SHSU) in three sets 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-3 and Eva Beyebach (UTSA) by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 12-10. Rounding out the sweeps in singles play was Othilia Broding in Flight No. 6, with defeats of Petra Kaszas (SHSU) in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 in round one and Roos Gerritsen (SHSU) in round two 6-4, 6-1.

The Redbirds are back in action Sunday morning to wrap up the two-day invitational.
