Redbirds Wrap Up Fall Season On High Note At Bearkat Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The fall season officially came to a close Sunday in Texas for the Illinois State women's tennis team, as the Redbirds picked up several doubles wins on the final day of the Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston State.

Two rounds of doubles action and third and final round of singles rounded out the last day of competition for the Redbirds, Northwestern State, Texas-San Antonio and the host Bearkats.

The duo of Penelope Abreu and Tara Damnjanovic defeated the pairing of Chobanyan/Zivkovic from Sam Houston state by a score of 6-3 in Flight No. 2 second round, before falling in the third round from a team from UTSA.

In Flight No. 3, the team of Alexandra Abyasova and Laura Fitzgerald capped off a perfect fall pairing together with two more wins. They took down the team of Damera/Vutukuru from Sam Houston by a score of 6-4 in round two and then defeated UTSA's Beyebach/Omoworare by a score of 6-3 in round three. The two wins improved the duo to 8-0 during the fall slate.

Illinois State will continue training over the next two months, before beginning the dual season on January 21, 2022, against North Dakota.
