NORMAL, Ill. – Day one of the 2021 Redbird Invitational dodged some late rain, but got every match in Friday in the Davis Cup-style tournament at the Gregory Street Courts.
"I like how we started in the doubles today with a lot of energy," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "We are trying some new pairings so it's still a work in progress, but right now it's all about getting matches under our belt. We competed well in singles and picked up some quality wins. Again, I am not too concerned with the results as much as I am simply looking for us playing good tennis and improving each day of the event."
The doubles team of Diego Emilio Moura Herrera and Dominick Cuchran picked up a win in the doubles red flight 8-7 over a duo from Bellarmine. In singles action, Herrera picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win and Melker Isaksson also picked up a three-set in the black flight.
Action resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday morning in the second of three days of the tournament.
