Redbirds Roll On Day 2 Of Redbirds Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team picked up big wins and key points Saturday afternoon, as the Redbirds went 11-1 in the Davis Cup-style Redbird Invitational at the Gregory Street Courts. Thanks to those points won, ISU will advance to three finals on Sunday.

"I am so pleased with how we played today," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "The guys picked up the energy from the first point and stayed focused throughout the day. Overall, we went 11-1 on the day and now we are fortunate to get to play in three finals tomorrow, which is always nice when you host an event."

All three doubles teams picked up big wins Saturday, as Diego Emilio Moura Herrera and Dominick Cuchran picked up an 8-7 win in the Red Flight over the team of Alveres/Behun from Saint Louis.  In the White Flight, Zane Kohrs and Zacharias Rankloo Rasmusson paired up to win 8-4 against the team of Jauch/Balthozer (MARQ). Rounding out action in the Black Flight, Melker Isaksson and Shu-Lun Chang cruised to an 8-0 win over Eastern Illinois' Ulrich/Pultz.

The Redbirds were equally as impressive in singles action, as Herrera picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win in the Red Flight, as did Cuchran who won in three sets over Behun from Saint Louis 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. In the White Flight, Rasmussion rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Balthozer from Marquette and in the Black Flight, Chang moved on after his opponent from Eastern Illinois was forced to retire due to injury and Isaksson won in three sets over Ulrich from EIU.

Final day action at the Gregory Street Courts begins at 10 a.m.
