ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After a stellar performance in the 2021 spring opener, Illinois State sophomore Emma Rouger has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Golfer of the Week, announced by the conference office on Thursday morning.
Rouger placed eight of 69 golfers at the Mid-American Conference Challenge, helping the Redbirds to a third-place finish at the event. On the par-72, 6,068-yard course she carded rounds of 75, 71, 71, ending the tournament one stroke over par with her final two rounds under par. Overall she had 10 birdies on the weekend against nine above-par holes and 35 pars. Of her 10 birdies, the came on nine different holes.
The Golfer of the Week honor was Rouger's first of her career, and joins Becca Black on this years' team as previous Golfer of the Week Award Winners. She is the 25th golfer in program history to earn Golfer of the Week honors.
After a weekend from competition, the squad returns to action on February 21 and 22 at the Strutter Gus Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern University.
