NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team will wrap up a brief homestand Sunday, when the Redbirds host in-state foe Eastern Illinois at the Bloomington Tennis & Turf complex.
"Eastern Illinois is a gritty team and we will need great energy and focus from the whole squad to put ourselves in a position to win," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said.
The Redbirds are fresh off a 4-1 win on Wednesday over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville to improve to 3-4 on the season. Reigning two-time Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week Jelena Karla Vujicic and Alicja Zduniak remained undefeated and helped the Redbirds pick up the doubles point. Tijana Zlatanovic, Natalia Bravo and Laura Arciniegas each picked up singles wins to help ISU come away with the victory.
EIU returns to action for the first time in two weeks, as its matches last week against IUPUI were canceled. The Panthers are off to a 1-3 start to the season and are led by Rachel Papavasilopoulos, who is 4-0 on the year at No. 1 singles and 3-0 on the season at No. 1 doubles teaming with Christine Gouws. Â Papavasilopoulos was named the OVC Female Player of the Week after the first two weeks of the season for EIU.
In accordance with state and local guidelines, fans are currently not allowed to attend home ISU Athletics events. Game dates, opponents, times and locations are all subject to change.
