NORMAL, Ill. – For the fourth time this season and the third time in as many weeks, Illinois State sophomore gymnast Angelica Labat has been named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week. Overall, this is Labat's sixth MIC Gymnast of the Week honor in her career and her 11th total MIC weekly recognition.
The Chesapeake, Virginia, native won the all-around for the sixth time this season by posting a score of 39.300 in Illinois State's tri-meet win over Southeast Missouri and Lindenwood last Friday. Her win was aided by a first-place finish on vault with a 9.900, a tie for fourth on beam with a 9.850 and a tie for seventh on bars with a 9.775. The 39.300 score was her second-highest score of the season, just short of her career-high total of 39.400 set the week prior.
The Redbirds will host the 2021 MIC Championship on Friday, March 19, at Redbird Arena. The meet, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on GoRedbirds.com. In accordance with state and local guidelines, fans are currently not allowed to attend home ISU Athletics events and attendance at the MIC Championship will be via pass list only.
