CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Illinois State women's tennis team began a three-match swing in the state of Tennessee on Friday, as the Redbirds took on Austin Peay. The Governors took the doubles point and never looked back, as the Redbirds dropped a 6-1 decision to APSU to snap a 7-match winning streak.
"We struggled to get going today and they adjusted to the tough conditions better and played very consistent," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said. "We'll look to get a good practice in tomorrow and be ready for Lipscomb on Sunday."
Austin Peay swept the doubles matches to take the early lead and kept that momentum going into the singles matches, winning five of the six matchups. Laura Arciniegas made sure the Redbirds didn't come away empty handed, as she defeated Austin Peay's Aleks Topalovic 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot.
Illinois State returns to the court Sunday for a noon matchup at Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn.
