NORMAL, Ill. – The 2021 regular season will come to an end Saturday for the Illinois State men's tennis team, when the Redbirds host in-state foe Chicago State for a 1 p.m. Senior Day match. Weather permitting, the match will be held outdoors at the Gregory Street Courts however if raining, the action will move to the Bloomington Tennis & Turf Complex.
"This is always the most special day of the year for us, as we get to celebrate the careers of our seniors," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "It's going to be a fun match against a team we are very familiar with. It should be a great day, and hopefully we will send the seniors out on a winning note."
The Redbirds picked up their first win in Summit League action last weekend, courtesy of a 5-2 win over Oral Roberts. In doubles action, Diego Le Gal Perez and Melker Isaksson picked up a win at the No. 3 spot then the duo of Aleksa Lazarevic and Pol Botifoll Rius picked up a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot to secure the early doubles point for the Redbirds. Wins by Isaksson, Diego Emilio Moura Herrera, Le Gal Perez and Lazarevic in singles action then cemented the win for ISU on their home courts.
The Cougars have won two of their last three matches heading into Normal for the final weekend of the regular season, before they participate in the Western Athletic Conference tournament at the beginning of May. Last weekend, Chicago State picked up a 7-0 win over Prairie State College and got off to a great start by sweeping doubles play. CSU then went on to sweep singles action for their fifth team win of the season.
