ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Four Redbird golfers – Becca Black, Emma Sutton, Emma Rouger and Ali Schrock – have been named to one of two Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Teams, announced by the MVC office on Thursday morning.
Illinois State's four golfers on the 18-person first and honorable mention squads were the high-water mark in the MVC, as Black and Sutton were named to the eight-person first team, and Rouger and Schrock to the 10-person honorable mention squad.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds.
A repeat honoree, Black, a senior from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, earned first team honors a season ago. Black has a 3.96 grade point average and is graduating with a degree in biology. Black closed her final season at ISU after playing in all 20 tournaments, averaging 78.9 strokes per round, and two rounds during the season at or under par.
Sutton, a native of Adelaide, South Australia, had the team's second-best scoring average on the season at 76.8 strokes per round, and had three top-10 finishes in seven total rounds, including tying for eighth at the 2021 MVC Championship, and had six top-20 finishes overall on the year.
Rouger, a sophomore, averaged 77.3 strokes per round. The Orleans, France, native played in seven events, and finished in the top-10 in nearly half of those (three). Her best finish came at the Diane Daugherty Invitational, where she took eighth overall, while also tying for eighth at the Mid-American Challenge to open the fall season.
Schrock, a sophomore from Pontiac, Illinois, had the teams third-best scoring average on the season at 77.0 strokes per round, and had a team-high three rounds at or under par. She had a pair of top-five finishes on the season, and closed the year with a 19th-place finish at the 2021 MVC Championship.
