YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Illinois State women's tennis team continues its fall portion of the schedule this weekend, when the Redbirds travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan, to compete in the three-day Eagle Invitational Oct. 1-3.
EMU will play host to the Redbirds as well as Ball State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Findlay, Northwood, Oakland, Wayne State and Western Michigan. The competition will take place in two locations, with the main setup at the Chippewa Club and the second site at Ypsilanti Community High School. Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the seeding being set by the players' universal tennis rating (UTR).
Last weekend, the Redbirds competed just down the road in Urbana, Illinois, at the ITA Midwest Regionals. The competitive tournament proved beneficial for ISU, which will send two singles competitors through to the ITA Midwest Super Regionals in October. Junior Alexandra Abyasova and sophomore Tijana Zlatanovic punched their tickets to the super regionals because of making it to the round of 16 in singles action Saturday. The ITA Midwest Super Regionals will be held Oct. 22-26 in Columbus, Ohio and hosted by Ohio State.
This will be the third tournament of the fall for the Redbirds, who will head to the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships in Valparaiso, Indiana, Oct. 8-10.Â
