Strong Opening Round Propels Redbirds to Top Half of Hoosier Intercollegiate Field

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Behind an opening-round 286, which saw ISU close the opening 18 holes in second place, the Redbirds held on to close the opening day in sixth place overall in the field of 15 with 18 holes remaining on Monday.

Cincinnati leads the field through the first 36 holes with a two-round team total of 571, Illinois (573), tournament host Indiana (574), Memphis (578), and Valparaiso (584) are just ahead of Illinois State's 585. Ball State (586), Miami-Ohio (589), Loyola Chicago (592), Lipscomb (594), North Alabama (595), Butler (612), Bradley (630), IUPUI (634), and Evansville (639) round out the nine teams behind the Redbirds.

Leading the way for the Redbirds is the tandem of Parker Wisdom and Alex McCulla, who each carded a one-over 143, while Valentin Peugnet is tied for 36th with an eight-over 150, and Joe Hodgson tied for 38th with a nine-over 151. Felix van Dijk rounds out the Redbirds in the field, as he is tied for 60th with a 14-over 156.

Over the opening 18 holes, both Wisdom and McCulla shot one-under 70's, with Wisdom's coming via three birdies and two bogeys, while McCulla had four birdies and three bogeys. Over the second round, Wisdom had a pair of birdies to go with four bogeys, while McCulla had a birdie and three bogeys.

Peugnet opened his round with a three-over 74, including four birdies and eight pars, coming back in the final round with a birdie and 13 pars for a five-over 76.

Hodgson caught a hot stretch in the middle of the first round, with five birdies over a seven-hole span, and closed his opening 18 holes with a one-over 72. Over the final round he carded 11 pars and seven over-par scores for a second-round 79.

Rounding out the five Redbird golfers in the field, van Dijk's 156 was split up with a first-round 79 and second-round 77. He opened the tournament with eight pars and had 13 total pars and a birdie over the first 18 holes, while closing the day with two birdies and nine pars for the six-over 77.

The teams take back to the course on Monday in the tee group with Memphis and Valparaiso.
