NORMAL, Ill. – It didn't take long for the reigning Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Year to get back to form, as junior Angelica Labat was named the MIC Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday following a strong performance in the all-around at Michigan State last weekend.
The MIC Gymnast of the Week honor is the first for Labat this season and seventh overall in her career at ISU.
After not competing in the all-around in the season-opening meet at Missouri, Labat was back in the all-around competition last Saturday against No. 15 Michigan State and Bowling Green in a tri-meet in East Lansing. Labat finished behind three Spartan gymnasts in fourth place overall in the all-round with a score of 38.675. That finish was aided by a tie for third place on bars (9.775) and a tie for fourth place on beam (9.850).
Labat and the Redbirds are back in action on Friday in their first home meet of the season. ISU will host Eastern Michigan inside historic Horton Field House at 7 p.m. and admission is free for all fans.
