FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Illinois State wrapped up a busy weekend of tennis against strong competition Sunday against Arkansas at Dills Indoor Stadium, as the Razorbacks won both matches of the doubleheader over the Redbirds.
Arkansas took the first match 7-0, however Diego Emilio Moura Herrera and Arvid Hjalte each took their singles matches to tiebreaker third sets before ultimately dropping the decisions. In match two, the Redbirds were able to pick up a point as Ming-Chieh Chiu defeated Arkansas' Josh Bortnick in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-6) to avoid a second sweep on the day. Chiu and Nam Pham also won at No. 3 doubles over the team of Bortnick and Foster Rogers by a score of 6-2.
The Redbirds return to action next weekend with four matches scheduled as a part of a pair of split doubleheaders. Things begin Friday at 9 a.m. against Chicago State, before taking on host Illinois at 1 p.m. They will then travel to Indianapolis for a pair matches against IUPUI on Saturday and against Butler on Sunday.Â
