ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Illinois State will send four athletes up north to Ann Arbor, Michigan to compete in the ITA Midwest Super Regional this weekend hosted by the University of Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The tournament consists of 20 teams from the Midwest region, including ISU, Illinois, UIC, Michigan, Bowling Green, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Marquette, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, and Youngstown State.
This year, the tournament will consist of two rounds of qualifying singles, with 16 qualifiers getting to the main draw. ISU will see three athletes in the singles qualifying round when action gets underway Thursday morning.
Tijana Zlatanovic will go against Cleveland State's Tereze Veyere, Alexandra Abyasova will face NIU's Erika Dimitriev, and Silvia Pomarolli will face Western Michigan's Valeriya Monko.
Meanwhile, Nevena Kolarevic has already advanced and will await her first singles action when singles main draw competition gets started Friday afternoon. The 'Birds will also be in action for doubles as those matches get started Friday morning prior to the start of main draw singles.Â
The 'Birds were last in action two weekends ago at the MVC Individual Championships. At the event, it was freshman Nevena Kolarevic going undefeated and winning her singles flight, while teammate Tara Damnjanovic battled hard to a second-place finish in her respective flight.
