Normal, Ill. - Illinois State Soccer brought home a pair of MVC Weekly honors in the same week for the second time this season Monday as Allison Baker earned MVC Offensive Player of the Week and Hillary Griffin was honored as MVC Freshman of the Week. The honors were announced by the league office.
Baker earned MVC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this year. Baker recorded a goal and an assist as she helped Illinois State upset top-ranked Missouri State Sunday to close the season in her final collegiate game. In the 11th minute Baker netted her fourth goal the year, which set her career best to cap off her collegiate career. She assisted on Katherine Felton's 68th-minute goal for her second game this season with at least one goal and one assist. Baker played all 90 minutes in both of Illinois State's games last week.
Griffin earned her first MVC Weekly honors of the season as she capped off her freshman year with a goal and an assist across two games. On Thursday against Evansville, she scored a 49th-minute tally for her second goal of the season. Griffin took the ball into the box off a breakaway and beat the Evansville goalkeeper from 10 yards out for the goal. On Sunday, Griffin got the start as she helped the Redbirds upset top-ranked Missouri State 4-2 as she recorded her sixth assist of the season, which lead all freshman in the Valley in 2022.
