NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team will be in familiar territory this weekend, as the fall season continues on their home courts with the 6th annual Redbird Invitational hosted at the Gregory Street Courts from Friday through Sunday.
Action Friday is set to begin at noon, with play set to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Redbirds will play host to in-state foes Eastern Illinois, DePaul, Chicago State, UIC and Illinois as well as Western Michigan, Bellarmine, Lindenwood and Central Florida.
"I am really looking forward to this weekend," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "It's always special when you get to host a tournament and play in front of your own friends and family. We have nine schools coming in, so it should be a great event showcasing a high level of tennis. It's particularly great to have a couple of Power 5 schools join this year, so it should be a good weekend. We hope our fans come out and support us, regardless of if the weather shows some cooler temperatures."
Last weekend, standouts Nam Pham and Melker Isaksson represented the Redbirds at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After each suffered setbacks on the opening day of action but bounced back for wins on day two to come away with a good feeling after the weekend.
Updated brackets will be posted after completion of play each day throughout the weekend on GoRedbirds.com.
