DES MOINES, Iowa – It was another exciting day for the Illinois State men's tennis program as the 'Birds were back in action for day two of the Drake Invite in Des Moines, Iowa. A day after facing off with the host Bulldogs in doubles, it would be ISU versus Drake in singles on Saturday.
Sadly, it was another tough day for the 'Birds on the courts as all six matches would go the way of Drake. However, ISU would see two matches go all three sets. It would be Dominic Anderson falling 7-6 (5), 3-6, 0-6 at number four singles. The other three-setter on Saturday came from the racket of Caden Scarlett, who fought to a 6-7 (3), 6-1, 4-6 defeat.
Tomas Valencia would fall 6-2, 6-2 in number one singles; Tin Ostro was not able to muster any game points as he fell 6-0, 6-0 from number two singles; Dominick Cuchran would give it his all, but came up short by a final of 6-1, 7-6 (4) at number three singles; Finally, Ming-Chieh Chiu fell 6-3, 6-4 from the number six singles position.
Illinois State will return to action Sunday at 10 a.m. to wrap up their time in Des Moines with singles and doubles play against Omaha.
