DES MOINES, Iowa – For the final time this fall, Illinois State men's tennis was in action as the 'Birds wrapped up the 2022 fall season at the Drake Invite. Illinois State would face off with Omaha in singles and doubles.
In doubles, the Mavs would win two out of three matches, only falling at number three doubles. ISU would see the pairing of Tomas Valencia and Caden Scarlett win 6-3 while the other two doubles matches fell to Omaha by scores of 6-3 (number one) and 6-4 (number two).
Once singles play served off, Valenica continued his strong day of play, winning 7-5, 6-4, 10-7 at number one singles as he would be the lone Redbird to win his singles match Sunday.
Of the remaining five matches that took place, results include: Tin Ostro falling 6-0, 6-0 at number two, Dominick Cuchran falling 6-4, 7-6 (7) at number three, Dominic Anderson suffering a 6-4, 6-1 loss at number four, Caden Scarlett falling 6-4, 6-4 at number five, and Ming-Chieh Chiu suffering a 7-5, 6-3 defeat at number six singles.
This concludes the 2022 fall season for Illinois State. The Redbirds will return to action January 20 as they host UIC to start the 2023 spring season.
