Trip To Indianapolis For Weekend Matchups Next For Redbirds

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Weather concerns cut the amount of meets in half for Illinois State this week, however the Redbirds will still make their weekend trip to Indianapolis for a pair of matchups in town on Saturday at IUPUI and on Sunday at Butler.

"We've had a tough start to the spring, but we've also played some big-time programs and this weekend is no different," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "It's been a tough week not being able to practice like we usually would be due to weather, but I'm sure we will be in the right frame of mind to compete hard, and we know what we need to do to pull out some wins this weekend."

ISU is coming off a bye week, following a busy weekend of tennis at Tulsa and Arkansas the weekend prior. Ming-Chieh Chiu had a strong Sunday against the Razorbacks, as he defeated Josh Bortnick in three sets to pick up a win at No. 6 singles and then combined with Nam Pham to pick up a win at No. 3 doubles.

The Redbirds will begin the weekend with a match Saturday at IUPUI, with first serve scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club. The Greyhounds are 0-6 to start the spring season and are coming off a loss on Wednesday to cross-town foe Indianapolis.

The weekend will conclude with a 9:30 a.m. match on Sunday against Butler at the Butler Bubble. The Bulldogs are 2-2 on the spring and are coming off a 5-2 over Cleveland State last Sunday afternoon for their second win of the season. Butler started off strong by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and then got wins at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to secure the victory.
