Redbirds Complete Day 1 of Meyo Invite, Keck Select

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Illinois State track & field wrapped up the first day of competition at both the Meyo Invite and Keck Select on Friday evening, as two Redbirds improved on their personal best times to move up on the Illinois State top-10 best list.

MEYO INVITE

Seniors Audrey Harrod and Nick Swartzendruber each set personal bests in the 600m races at the Meyo Invite. With a time of 1:32.22, Harrod finished sixth overall and moved up to third in program history in the event, passing former Redbirds Hattie Plumb and Metria Bell along the way.

On the men's side, Swartzendruber ran a 1:19.45 to improve his personal best time. With his time, he continues to hold the fourth fastest mark in school history.

Redshirt senior Logan Calvin had a strong night in the throwing circle, capturing a seventh-place finish in a stacked men's weight throw field. Calvin's toss of 20.03m (65-8.75 ft.) marked the second time this season that he has thrown over 65 feet.

The sprints squad also performed well on the track, as all who ran in the 60m dash preliminary races qualified for the tomorrow's semifinals. Led by sophomore Mattie Lieb who clocked a 7.76 on the women's side, all three Redbird women (Lieb, Arianna Walker and Sa'Mone Winters) are set to race in the semifinals on Saturday at 11:10 a.m. CT.

Freshman Devin Turner continued the strong start to his Redbird career, advancing to the 60m dash semifinals with a qualifying time of 6.91. In his second event of the night, Turner also set a new personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 22.04 to place tenth overall.

Through four events in the men's heptathlon, senior Caleb Miedema leads the field with 2,886 points.
