ST. LOUIS – Illinois State junior Maria Toledo Bailey has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for the second time this season after her eighth-place finish at the 2022 UTRGV Invitational.
Played in McAllen, Texas, Toledo Bailey opened play with rounds of 76 and 78 in extreme wind conditions, before coming back for day two with a final-round of 74. She was the top finisher among MVC schools. The Redbirds put three golfers – along with Ali Schrock (t-14) and Avalon Woodward (t-16) ahead of the next highest MVC golfer in the field.
Toledo Bailey leads the Redbirds in scoring average, at 74.8 strokes per round, and has a pair of top-10 finishes – both times earning MVC Golfer of the Week honors. Over her 33 career rounds Toledo Bailey has a scoring average of 75.6.
The Redbirds return to action on Saturday, March 19 for the fourth and final southern tournament when the squad competes in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University in Sedona, Arizona.
