SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Illinois State's Melker Isaksson and Diego Emilio Moura Herrera were among seven men named to the 2022 Summit League Academic All-League team. Student-athletes were chosen for the award based on their academic and athletic performances during the 2022 season. Drake's Matija Matic and Isaksson earned their second-consecutive accolade.
Isaksson appears on the list for the second-straight year, and currently holds a 4.0 GPA in sustainable/renewable energy at Illinois State. The Lidkoping, Sweden, native posted a 17-12 singles mark on the season and was 3-2 in Summit League matches. He recorded a 12-14 doubles mark on the year, playing mostly with partner Diego Le Gal Perez. He was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Athlete of the Week on April 12, after picking up a doubles win and the singles win that clinched a match victory over Oral Roberts.
Herrera makes the list for the first time in his career and holds a 3.89 GPA in business administration at ISU. The Lisbon, Portugal, native recorded a 12-14 singles record during the 2021-22 season, including a 3-2 mark in Summit League action. He also posted a 5-8 doubles mark, playing primarily with partner Dominick Cuchran. Herrera got on a roll during February and March, winning seven of eight singles matches at one point from February 10 to March 25.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's institutions that carry tennis and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs).
