URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team took away a lot of positives from their first tournament of the fall, as the Redbirds wrapped up action on Sunday at the UTR College Circuit event hosted by Illinois.
There are a lot of positives to take from this weekend," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said. "We were able to get a lot of matches in and try some different doubles pairings, which will help us moving forward."
In the doubles draw, the duo of Tijana Zlatanovic and Tara Damnjanovic picked up a 7-5 win to finish the weekend on a high note. Damnjanovic then shifted her focus to singles, where she earned a quarterfinal win in the back draw before suffering a loss in the semifinals. Elena Jankulovska also picked up a quick 6-3, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals, but did not play in her semifinal matchup. Newcomers Zoe Limparis and Silvia Pomarolli also competed in the back draw quarterfinals, but each were defeated to bring their weekends to an end.
The Redbirds return to action on Friday, September 30, when they host their annual three-day Redbird Invitational at the Gregory Street Courts in Normal.
